Bladder Incontinence Surgery
Bladder Incontinence Surgery is utilized to correct urine leaks in women that occur when coughing, laughing, sneezing or straining during exercise or lifting. There are a number of procedures to correct incontinence including the following.
- Tape Procedure: Plastic tape is inserted through an incision in the vagina and placed around the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body) to reposition the urethra and reduce the leaking of urine
- Colposuspension: A laparoscope (with a tiny camera) is inserted into a small incision in the abdomen; thin surgical instruments are used to lift the neck of bladder and stitch it into the lifted position to prevent urine leaks
- Sling Procedures: This involves making an incision in the lower abdomen and vagina and placing a sling (made of tissue from your body, a synthetic material or a cadaver or animal graft) around the neck of the bladder to support it and prevent urine leaks
