Epidural Steroid Injection

An Epidural Steroid Injection is a minimally invasive surgical procedure utilized to relieve pain caused by inflamed spinal nerves. The injection is usually a combination of a corticosteroid with a local anesthetic.

  • The skin on the lower back is numbed using a local anesthetic
  • A needle is inserted into the skin and Fluoroscopy (Live X-Ray) is used to guide the needle to the epidural space near the spinal cord
  • After the needle is confirmed to be in the proper place, the solution is slowly injected
