EndoVenous Laser ablation is a minimally invasive procedure that uses laser energy to treat varicose veins. The procedure may be used for cosmetic purposes or to relieve pain, irritation, swelling or inflammation of the veins.
- Local anesthesia is typically used
- A small incision is made at the site
- Using ultrasound guidance, a small catheter is inserted and guided into the vein
- A laser fiber electrode is inserted
- Laser energy is applied to treat the vein
