Laparoscopic Bowel Resection
Laparoscopic bowel resection involves surgical removal of all or part of the large or small intestines (bowels).
- general anesthesia is typically used
- this is a minimally invasive procedure involving use of a laparoscope
- scope is inserted into the abdomen through a number of small incisions (about ¼” long)
- procedure also involves inflating the abdomen with carbon dioxide gas to create more working space for the surgeon
