Cervical & Lumbar Fusions
Cervical and Lumbar Fusions are surgical procedures performed to relieve pain by removing a diseased or aggravated disc from the back or neck – then using a bone graft to create a new bone mass called a “Fusion.”
- General anesthesia is typically used
- Surgeon makes a small incision along the spine in the back or neck
- The muscles and connective tissue are pulled back to reach the bone
- Surgeon removes the aggravated disc from the spine
- Bone graft material is put into place to create the fusion (small screws and/or rods may also be inserted to hold the bones in place)
